It is summer now. In the U.S., that means maybe a trip to the beach, or hanging out with friends, maybe a road trip. But, that also means the sun is very strong. But of course, that means many Americans will try to tan, making their skin darker. Some will also go to a place to spray it on.

But what about in China?

Since spring, I have seen many Chinese girls carrying umbrellas to protect their skin from becoming tan. My friend stood me this is because in China, white skin is beautiful. Of course you cannot say that in the U.S., but in China it seems to be ok. I have also heard of some other ways people try to not tan. For example, some people at the beach wear face masks to protect your faces. I have also seen face wash that makes your skin whiter. I actually tried it, and I don't think it worked.

I know in the U.S., people like to tan because it makes them look a bit exotic, a little different. Many people in the U.S. find that attractive. So, why is white skin considered beautiful here?
