1860s Chin Curtain

It became popular while Abe Lincoln was president.

There is a story behind Abe Lincoln and the chin curtain.  When Lincoln was running for president, he was clean shaven.  But, he then received a letter from a little girl.  The little girl told Mr. Lincoln that her brothers and her father would vote for Lincoln if he grew a beard.  Thus, Abraham Lincoln grew this style (as it has no mustache) beard and wore it ever since.
In fact, Abe Lincoln met the girl a few months later, telling her that "I grew the beard for you".
